Astrophytum nudam x fukuryu hybrid Cactus Plant

Astrophytum myriostigma 'Nudum' × 'Fukuryu' Hybrid

Family

Cactaceae

Native

North America

Description

The Astrophytum nudam x fukuryu hybrid features the iconic star-shaped form of Astrophytum with five distinct ribs, though some plants may develop additional ribs.

These ribs exhibit a slight twist and irregularity, reflecting the hybrid’s vigor and the influence of the Fukuryu parent. The smooth, green surface with minimal white flecking is characteristic of the nudum lineage. Fukuryu traits manifest as irregular, extra ribs or folds along and between the ribs, sometimes creating a bumpy or sculptural texture.

Small areoles line the ribs, bearing no spines but topped with white trichome tufts. This cactus grows slowly to 10–15 cm in height and produces pale yellow flowers with orange to reddish throats at the apex during summer.

Environment

Like most cacti they're drought tolerant and need very little care and attention to grow well. Not enough sunlight and over-watering are common mistakes.

Plenty of sunshine will keep this cacti more than happy. In a glass room you may have to provide some shade during a hot summers day to prevent sunburn

Feed every 4 weeks with a Nitrogen-poor and Potassium & Phosphorus-rich fertilizer during summer

Landscape Uses

It is an excellent plant for garden rockery settings, desert type landscapes, patios and botanical gardens
