Description

Bauhinia is a fairly fast-growing evergreen or nearly evergreen tree growing up to 4 - 17 metres tall with a short often gnarled bole. The leaves are bilobed, shaped like an ox hoof & they are 6 to 15 centimeters long and broad.

Bauhinia Purpurea Alba also known as White Orchid Tree is known for its stunning, fragrant white flowers with splash of pink , up to 5-inches in size and bloom in astounding profusion. Its leaves are 10-20 cm in length and breadth, including unique rounded and bilobed features at the base and the apex. Once the blooming period is over, the tree bears distinctive pods, each reaching up to 30 cm and containing 12 to 16 seeds. These plants can flower all year round.

Environment

Bauhinia can succeed in full sun to partial shade. They prefer fertile, well-drained but moisture retentive soil and moderate watering.

It is used as an ornamental and hedge plant in the gardening.
