Description

Billbergia nutans Plant is an exquisite evergreen perennial that forms funnel-shaped rosettes of linear, grey-green leaves. Its slender pink-bracted stems hold arching racemes of flowers, creating a beautiful display.

This graceful bromeliad has long, narrow, and arching green leaves with a slightly leathery texture, adding to its charm. It grows compact and clumping, reaching a height of 12-18 inches (30-45 cm). The leaves also have a reddish tint under bright light and form a rosette, which collects water for the plant.

Its flowers are truly spectacular, with drooping pink bracts and tubular green flowers edged in blue or violet. The exotic look is further enhanced by prominent yellow stamens, and when in bloom, the plant releases nectar, resembling tears, hence the name Queen's Tears.

Environment

Thriving in warm and humid climates, Billbergia nutans prefers bright indirect light or partial sun and can tolerate some direct sun with minimal watering. Avoid harsh midday exposure and keep the central cup filled with water.

Use a well-draining, airy mix of soil such as orchid bark or bromeliad potting mix.

Light feeding with a diluted bromeliad fertilizer every few weeks is recommended and allow the soil to slightly dry between waterings.
