Description

Billbergia zebrina is a tropical epiphytic bromeliad known for its unique foliage and beautiful flowers. The elongated, green leaves feature horizontal silver-white stripes, earning it the "zebra" moniker. These leaves form a compact, upright rosette which aids in water collection and storage. This bromeliad can grow up to 1-2 feet (30-60 cm) tall as an epiphyte (on trees) or terrestrial plant. Its bright pink to red bracts gracefully arch outward, while the tubular yellowish-green flowers with blue or violet edges emerge from the bracts.

Environment

Thriving in warm and humid climates, Billbergia zebrina prefers bright indirect light or partial sun and can tolerate some direct sun with minimal watering. Avoid harsh midday exposure and keep the central cup filled with water.

Use a well-draining, airy mix of soil such as orchid bark or bromeliad potting mix.

Light feeding with a diluted bromeliad fertilizer every few weeks is recommended and allow the soil to slightly dry between waterings.
